INTRODUCTION:

Who in their right mind wouldn't want to be totally free from fear, AND have power, love and a sound mind?

Yet believe it or not, because many people's perception that has been manipulated by the world, they actually don't want these great things if they are told that the are from God.

That is the function of the accuser: one of the many names of the devil who falsely accuses God and God's people of everything under the sun.

Revelation 12:10
And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.

This is why we must go to God's word itself and see what it actually says and then believe and act accordingly.

Jesus confronted the disciples' fear and gave them a true example of boldness and strength by rebuking “the winds and the sea”.

Matthew 8:26

It is significant that this root word deilos is used 4 times in the bible because four is the number of the world, and look what God says about the world!

II Corinthians 4

I John 2

In II Timothy 1:7, when it says “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear”, it is referring to a devil spirit. It doesn't mean that every time you feel a little fear that you're possessed with a devil spirit. Everybody experiences fear in their lives at times, but God can help deliver us away from its power.

Psalms 56:4
In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me.

Proverbs 29:25
The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the Lord shall be safe.


We're always better off trusting in God and his perfect word than in ourselves or the world.

Definition: (a) physical power, force, might, ability, efficacy, energy, meaning (b) plur: powerful deeds, deeds showing (physical) power, marvelous works.

1411 dýnamis (from 1410 /dýnamai, "able, having ability") – properly, "ability to perform" (L-N); for the believer, power to achieve by applying the Lord's inherent abilities. "Power through God's ability" (1411 /dýnamis) is needed in every scene of life to really grow in sanctification and prepare for heaven (glorification). 1411 (dýnamis) is a very important term, used 120 times in the NT.

Luke 10:19

Who is “the enemy”? The devil, and we have great power over him.

Acts 1:8

This verse refers to speaking in tongues, one of the nine manifestations of the gift of holy spirit, which is manifesting or operating the inherent spiritual power we receive when we get born again.

As we speak in tongues, we are manifesting spiritual power over our enemy Satan.

Look what Ephesians says!

Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh [energized] in us,


Ephesians 6:10
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

The word “overcome” is used 6 times in the book of I John, all in reference to our victory over the devil through God and the works of his son Jesus Christ.

We can overcome the world because Jesus Christ originally overcame the world and when we get born again, we have Christ in us.

26 agápē – properly, love which centers in moral preference. So too in secular ancient Greek, 26 (agápē) focuses on preference; likewise the verb form (25 /agapáō) in antiquity meant "to prefer" (TDNT, 7). In the NT, 26 (agápē) typically refers to divine love (= what God prefers).

I John 4:18
There is no fear in love; but perfect [mature] love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect [mature] in love.


This word perfect is the Greek word telios [Strong's #5046] and it is also used 19 times in the new testament. 19 is the 8th prime number and 8 is the number of a new beginning and of resurrection.

Its a new day in our lives when we can overcome and cast out the fear in our hearts, homes and lives.

Joshua 1
5 There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.
6 Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give them.

7 Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper withersoever thou goest.

Look at this phrase in verse 8: “that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein:”.

Why is it so important to do God's written will? Because that is the love of God.

John 14:5
If ye love me, keep my commandments.

John 15:10
If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.

I John 5
1 Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.
2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.
3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

We are not talking about the 10 commandments in the old testament from Moses. We are talking about the books of the bible written directly to christians today.

I Corinthians 14:5
I would that ye all spake with tongues but rather that ye prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying.

Here is a very clear statement of God's will: for us to speak in tongues. What does God say about this?

I Corinthians 14:37
If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord.

Speaking in tongues is a commandment of the Lord!

Remember God's manifested power in Acts 1:8 which is speaking in tongues? Now we find out that it is also manifesting God's love, which is to do his will.

I Timothy 3

Having a sound mind is a requirement to be a leader of the church, so it must be very important.

Titus 2
1 But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine:
2 That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate [sōphrōn], sound in faith, in charity, in patience.

3 The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;
4 That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,

5 To be discreet [sōphrōn], chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.
So having a sound mind is also the will of God for older men and younger women as well.

I Corinthians 2:16
For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? but we have the mind of Christ.

We have the sound mind of Christ spiritually, but we must also think, believe, speak and act on God's word if we are going to live the more abundant life.

II Timothy 1:13
Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.

Titus 1:9
Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.

The sound mind of Christ, combined with sound biblical doctrine and sound thinking, prevents the fear from coming back.


Romans 12:2
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
