The bible vs the medical system, part 6: old testament pharmakeia
October 31, 2018
INTRODUCTION
The Hippocratic oath is to first do no harm, yet experts in the medical system tell us that all drugs cause harm in the form of side effects [ranging from frivolous to fatal], so all doctors violate the Hippocratic oath with every prescription they write.
How many other industries regularly violate the principles they are based on and still survive?
Apparently, the pharmaceutical industry answers to no one, which suggests bribery and coercion with their governing body, the FDA, the one who is supposed to keep the drug companies in line.
Biblically and spiritually, this is lawlessness and hypocrisy.
In the bible, the devil is called the lawless one and Jesus Christ called the devil’s children [a particular group of religious leaders] hypocrites 7 times in Matthew 23.
The lawlessness and hypocrisy in the medical system simply reflects the devil’s contamination of the system as a whole by way of his children.
BTW there are 3 things in the bible where God specifically says they are to be without hypocrisy:
- Believing [I Timothy 1:5; II Timothy 1:5]
- Love [Romans 12:9; II Corinthians 6:6; I Peter 1:22]
- Wisdom [James 3:17]
Natural alternatives to prescription drugs have far fewer and less severe side effects, and very often have zero side effects when used properly for the right reasons.
BTW Alternative medicine is really a misnomer because it has been in existence for thousands of years before modern prescription medications came on the scene 100 years or so ago.
Therefore, modern medical treatments are the true medical alternative to the historical standard of care.
PHARMAKEIA IN THE OLD TESTAMENT
There are 4 variations of the root Greek word pharmakeia that we will be studying in the old testament, so this is coming from the Septuagint, the Greek translation of the OT listed below:
pharmakeia 5331 [verb]
An administering of potions, sorcery, medicine.
pharmekeuo 5332.1 [verb]
To bewitch, administer potions; to compound medicine.
pharmakon 5332.2 [noun]
A drug, potion; medicine.
pharmakon 5333 [noun]
A sorcerer, an administerer of potions.
These 4 words are used:
- 20 times in 11 different books of the old testament
- 5 times in 2 different books of the new testament
- for a total of 25 usages in 13 different books of the bible
13 is the number of rebellion in the bible.
Also of note is the fact that the root word for pharmakeia is used in 11 different books of the bible.
“If ten is the number which marks the perfection of Divine order, then eleven is an addition to it, subversive of and undoing that order. If twelve is the number which marks the perfection of Divine government, then eleven falls short of it. So that whether we regard it as being 10 + 1, or 12 – 1, it is the number which marks, disorder, disorganization, imperfection, and disintegration“.
What does the unique distribution pattern of the root word pharmakeia tell us?
Here is the numerical and spiritual summary:
- The root word pharmakeia is used in 2 books of the NT and 2 is the number of division
- The root word pharmakeia is used more in Exodus than any other book of the bible [7 = 35%], which is also the 2nd book of the bible; again the number 2 for division
- There are 4 variations of the root word and 4 is the number of the world; James 3:15 – the wisdom of this world is earthly, sensual and devilish; James 4:4 – a friend of the world is an enemy of God; I John 2:15 – if you love the world, the love of God is not in you;
- The root word Pharmakeia is used 11 times in the OT and 11 is the number of disorder and disintegration
- The root word Pharmakeia is used 13 times in the bible and 13 is the number of rebellion
So here is the spiritual summary of the numerical summary of Pharmakeia:
- Double division
- Worldliness: enemy of God
- Disorder and disintegration
- Rebellion
This is why Satan is pushing legal and illegal drugs of all kinds so hard.

Total | — | 20 | 100 |
Over 1/3 of all the old testament usages of pharmakeia are in just one book: Exodus.
What difference does all this make?
Exodus is the 2nd book of the bible and the number 2 indicates establishment or division, depending on context.
In the context of pharmakeia, this is a perfect usage because all the drugs the people were using caused a spiritual division between them and God.
Furthermore, look at the connection between pharmakeia and bondage:
The english word “bondage” is used 39 times in the bible [kjv].
It is first used in the book of Exodus and occurs 9 times, also more than any other book of the bible.
The root words pharmakeia & bondage are used more in Exodus than any other book of the bible because drugs are a form of bondage.
The Israelites physical bondage was slavery in Egypt.
After their escape from Egypt, their psychological and spiritual bondage were drugs.
Below is a screenshot of a page out of the Companion Reference Bible by E. W. Bullinger. It shows the figure of speech called alternation which reveals the structure, subject matter, and meaning of the book of Exodus in a remarkable way.
It just so happens that bondage is one of the main themes of the book of Exodus.
The second most common usages of the word “bondage” in the bible is a tie between Galatians & Deuteronomy, both with 6, the number of man as he is influenced by Satan.
In both books, the people were under the legal bondage of the old testament law and the physical, psychological and spiritual bondage of drugs.
Exodus: The Israelites were in slavery and bondage in Egypt. Jesus Christ is the subject of every book of the bible and is the Passover lamb who redeemed them and gave them freedom.
Galatians: God’s people were in bondage to the law and the elements of the world, [such as drugs], but Jesus Christ freed us from the curse of the law and gave us liberty. In the book of Galatians, Jesus Christ is our righteousness and not the law.
In canonical order, the first usage of pharmakeia in the bible is in Exodus [from a Greek translation of the old testament so that the old & new testaments are more unified].
PHARMAKEIA: USAGES 1 – 7
Exodus 7
10 And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did so as the Lord had commanded: and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants, and it became a serpent.
11 Then Pharaoh also called the wise men and the sorcerers [pharmakon Strong’s #5333]: now the magicians of Egypt, they also did in like manner with their enchantments [pharmakeia 5331].
22 And the magicians of Egypt did so with their enchantments [pharmakeia 5331]: and Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, neither did he hearken unto them; as the Lord had said.
Exodus 8
16 And the Lord said unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, Stretch out thy rod, and smite the dust of the land, that it may become lice throughout all the land of Egypt.
17 And they did so; for Aaron stretched out his hand with his rod, and smote the dust of the earth, and it became lice in man, and in beast; all the dust of the land became lice throughout all the land of Egypt.
18 And the magicians did so with their enchantments [pharmakeia 5331] to bring forth lice, but they could not: so there were lice upon man, and upon beast.
The devil does have power, but far less than what God’s people can manifest when they are walking with the power of the Lord.
Exodus 9
10 And they took ashes of the furnace, and stood before Pharaoh; and Moses sprinkled it up toward heaven; and it became a boil breaking forth with blains [blisters or boils] upon man, and upon beast.
11 And the magicians [pharmakon 5333] could not stand before Moses because of the boils; for the boil was upon the magicians [pharmakon 5333] and upon all the Egyptians.
Exodus 22:18
Thou shalt not suffer [allow] a witch [pharmakon 5333] to live.
In the old testament days, it was impossible to cast a devil spirit out of somebody, so the only option left to separate the spirit from the person was to die.
However, in our age of grace, because of the finished works of Jesus Christ, it’s possible that Christians can cast a devil spirit out of somebody and have them delivered and healed from the clutches of the devil.
No wonder Christianity is attacked and discredited so much.
I wonder if this is the verse that was used to justify the hangings of people accused of being a witch in the Salem witch trials from February 1692 to May 1693.
Some had ailments that were simply not understood at the time, so they blamed evil spirits and sentenced those people to die.
Some of the so-called witches were actually evil, operating devil spirits and harming people with their backyard brews.
However, many were good people using homeopathy and other valid treatments and they were falsely accused of being an evil witch because of the healing and good they were bringing to people.
The same thing goes on today where very safe, effective and affordable natural treatments are outlawed to protect the income of the wicked pushing their poisons on society.
If somebody invents or finds a true cure of a disease, they are often humiliated, discredited, and in some cases, murdered in cold blood because the natural treatment causes somebody else who is selling an expensive and worthless drug that is supposed to fix the problem to lose money.
To some, executing a “witch” may sound like an unjustified punishment that goes way beyond the severity of the crime.
However, these sorcerers were not only using harmful drugs or potions, they were operating devil spirits in the process, spiritually poisoning the entire congregation and during old testament times, the only way to cast a devil spirit out of somebody was to have them killed.
What do you call a midget sorcerer running around society?
A small medium at large.
Galatians 5
7 Ye did run well; WHO did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth?
8 This persuasion cometh not of him that calleth you.
9 A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.
Notice the question in verse 7 is not what, why, where, when or how you got hindered, but who.
Why?
Because once you know who hindered you, then you know you are in the spiritual competition and you now understand the what, why, where, when and how.
Ephesians 6:12
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
One of the spiritual purposes of the sorcerer’s potions is to open up a person’s mind for devil spirit possession so the devil can carry out his dirty work through them.
Another is to render the mind incapable of sound rational thoughts and judgment, hindering a person’s ability to:
- understand the word of God
- believe the word of God
- separate truth from error
- operate the 9 manifestations of holy spirit effectively
This is exactly what our modern prescription drugs do many times.
Ever see the mile-long list of side effects from the medications you’re on?
[Not to mention all the debilitating and even deadly interactions of all those incompatible chemicals].
Of course you have.
Depression, drowsiness, confusion, lightheadedness, nausea, headaches, constipation, dry mouth, liver damage, heart attacks, etc.
In the vast majority of cases, they hinder your walk with the Lord rather than help it.
I’ve seen many people get so sick from the medications they were on that they were:
- too sick to go to work
- too sick to go to church
- too sick to get anything useful done
causing even more stress and problems.
PHARMAKEIA: USAGES 8 – 10
Deuteronomy 18
10 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch.
11 Or a charmer [pharmakon 5333], or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.
12 For all that do these things are an abomination unto the Lord: and because of these abominations the Lord thy God doth drive them out from before thee.
13 Thou shalt be perfect with the Lord thy God.
When were the Israelites going to be “perfect”?
After these 9 horrible and devilish things were driven:
- Out of their hearts
- Out of their homes
- Out of their lives
because all 9 involve the influence and operation of devil spirits.
In verse 13, what does “perfect” mean?
Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance
without blemish, complete, full, perfect, sincerely ity, sound, without spot, undefiled,
From [Hebrew word} tamam; entire (literally, figuratively or morally); also (as noun) integrity, truth — without blemish, complete, full, perfect, sincerely (-ity), sound, without spot, undefiled, upright(-ly), whole.
In other words, they were spiritually clean and mature, walking well with the Lord.
If you fast-forward a few thousand years into the grace administration, look what we have spiritually as sons of God!
Colossians 2:10
And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:
We are spiritually complete and righteous in the eyes of God, yet are we living that righteousness?
By our freedom of will, we can choose to live according to the ways of the world, or by the revealed word of God.
II Kings 9
21 And Joram said, Make ready. And his chariot was made ready. And Joram king of Israel and Ahaziah king of Judah went out, each in his chariot, and they went out against Jehu, and met him in the portion of Naboth the Jezreelite.
22 And it came to pass, when Joram saw Jehu, that he said, Is it peace, Jehu? And he answered, What peace, so long as the whoredoms of thy mother Jezebel and her witchcrafts [pharmakon 5332.2] are so many?
As long as idolatry, drugs and devil spirits are in operation in the world, there will be no peace. That is why world peace is an impossibility in this current biblical administration.
Yet, with the the word of God, we can have peace in our hearts, no matter what goes on in the world:
Philippians 4:7 [amplified bible]
And the peace of God [that peace which reassures the heart, that peace] which transcends all understanding, [that peace which] stands guard over your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus [is yours].
In the distant future, there will be a new heaven and earth where God’s righteousness is the only game in town.
Jezebel was born of the seed of the serpent [she was a child of the devil], which corroborates what the new testament says about these type of people: they have deceived the entire world with idolatry and drugs.
This is not surprising seeing that her father was Ethbaal, king of the Zidonians.
“Ethbaal” literally means “with Baal”, and refers to living under Baal’s favor.
I Kings 16:31
And it came to pass, as if it had been a light thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, that he took to wife Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal king of the Zidonians, and went and served Baal, and worshipped him.
British Dictionary definitions for baal
noun
- any of several ancient Semitic fertility gods
- Phoenician myth, the sun god, and supreme national deity
- (sometimes not capital) any false god or idol
All the commentaries I’ve seen say the name “Jezebel” is of uncertain origin. No surprise there: the adversary often hides his works and the identity of his children so that he can do his dirty work undetected.
One commentary even said that the name “Jezebel” was a deliberate alteration of her original name Jezebaal to hide the connection between her and Baal!
I find that very plausible, especially considering her father was Ethbaal.
Furthermore, the name “bel” is a contraction of baal, which hides her identity as a daughter of the devil.
II Chronicles 33
1 Manasseh was twelve years old when he began to reign, and he reigned fifty and five years in Jerusalem:
2 But did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord, like unto the abominations of the heathen, whom the Lord had cast out before the children of Israel.
3 For he built again the high places which Hezekiah his father had broken down, and he reared up altars for Baalim, and made groves, and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served them.
4 Also he built altars in the house of the Lord, whereof the Lord had said, In Jerusalem shall my name be for ever.
5 And he built altars for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of the Lord.
6 And he caused his children to pass through the fire in the valley of the son of Hinnom: also he observed times, and used enchantments, and used witchcraft [pharmekeuo 5332.1] and dealt with a familiar spirit, and with wizards: he wrought much evil in the sight of the Lord, to provoke him to anger.
Why would any parent allow their own children to be burned alive?
Deception.
They sacrificed their own children to false gods who promised false things, such as eternal life, all in the context of idolatry and drugs.
Familiar spirits are devil spirits that are very familiar with a person and are very effective in deceiving many people into believing the dead are actually alive.
The only way we can separate truth from error is to know the perfect precision and integrity of God’s word, which is the bible.
Then we can instantly separate truth from error.
Priceless.
PHARMAKEIA: USAGES 11 – 15
Psalms 58
1 Do ye indeed speak righteousness, O congregation? do ye judge uprightly, O ye sons of men?
2 Yea, in heart ye work wickedness; ye weigh the violence of your hands in the earth.
3 The wicked are estranged from the womb: they go astray as soon as they be born, speaking lies.
4 Their poison is like the poison of a serpent: they are like the deaf adder that stoppeth her ear;
5 Which will not hearken to the voice of charmers [pharmakon 5333], charming [pharmekeuo 5332.1] never so wisely.
Isaiah 47
8 Therefore hear now this, thou that art given to pleasures, that dwellest carelessly, that sayest in thine heart, I am, and none else beside me; I shall not sit as a widow, neither shall I know the loss of children:
9 But these two things shall come to thee in a moment in one day, the loss of children, and widowhood: they shall come upon thee in their perfection for the multitude of thy sorceries [pharmakeia 5331] , and for the great abundance of thine enchantments.
10 For thou hast trusted in thy wickedness: thou hast said, None seeth me. Thy wisdom and thy knowledge, it hath perverted thee; and thou hast said in thine heart, I am, and none else beside me.
11 Therefore shall evil come upon thee; thou shalt not know from whence it riseth: and mischief shall fall upon thee; thou shalt not be able to put it off: and desolation shall come upon thee suddenly, which thou shalt not know.
12 Stand now with thine enchantments, and with the multitude of thy sorceries [pharmakeia 5331] wherein thou hast laboured from thy youth; if so be thou shalt be able to profit, if so be thou mayest prevail.
Notice the phrase, “I am, and none else beside me” occurs twice, establishing their pride and arrogance.
It’s a distorted, worldly counterfeit of characteristics that are only attributed to the Lord, the designer and creator of the universe.
Pride goes before a fall, as these verses testify.
Isaiah 45:5
I am the Lord, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me:
Isaiah 45:6
That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me. I am the Lord, and there is none else.
Jeremiah 27
6 And now have I given all these lands into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant; and the beasts of the field have I given him also to serve him.
7 And all nations shall serve him, and his son, and his son’s son, until the very time of his land come: and then many nations and great kings shall serve themselves of him.
8 And it shall come to pass, that the nation and kingdom which will not serve the same Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, and that will not put their neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, that nation will I punish, saith the Lord, with the sword, and with the famine, and with the pestilence, until I have consumed them by his hand.
9 Therefore hearken not ye to your prophets, nor to your diviners, nor to your dreamers, nor to your enchanters, nor to your sorcerers [pharmakon 5333], which speak unto you, saying, Ye shall not serve the king of Babylon:
10 For they prophesy a lie unto you, to remove you far from your land; and that I should drive you out, and ye should perish.
These verses again corroborate what the rest of the word says about drugs, lies, and deception in the medical system.
When it comes to 5-senses knowledge however, it can take quite some time to separate truth from error because it seemingly takes endless amounts of research, money and suffering to finally get to the bottom of it.
Assuming we manage to live through it all in one piece.
That is why sometimes it takes years, decades or even a lifetime to find the answers to our health problems.
The devil has made the world a spiritual wilderness, but with God’s grace, knowledge and sound logic, he can lead us through to victory.
PHARMAKEIA: USAGES 16 – 20
Daniel 2
1 And in the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar Nebuchadnezzar dreamed dreams, wherewith his spirit was troubled, and his sleep brake from him.
2 Then the king commanded to call the magicians, and the astrologers, and the sorcerers [pharmakon 5333], and the Chaldeans, for to shew the king his dreams. So they came and stood before the king.
Micah 5
9 Thine hand shall be lifted up upon thine adversaries, and all thine enemies shall be cut off.
10 And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord, that I will cut off thy horses out of the midst of thee, and I will destroy thy chariots:
11 And I will cut off the cities of thy land, and throw down all thy strong holds:
12 And I will cut off witchcrafts [pharmakon 5332.2] out of thine hand; and thou shalt have no more soothsayers:
Verse 11 says that the Lord will throw down the strong holds. When something deceives all nations on earth, and causes so many many problems in societies around the world, that is a spiritual strong hold of the enemy, the devil.
II Corinthians 10
3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
We have the power to take the enemy’s strong holds down!
What are some examples of the enemy’s strong holds?
- Most of the drugs and all of the lies in the medical system
- the unholy trinity
- homosexuality
The list is almost endless.
Nahum 3
1 Woe to the bloody city! it is all full of lies and robbery; the prey departeth not;
2 The noise of a whip, and the noise of the rattling of the wheels, and of the pransing horses, and of the jumping chariots.
3 The horseman lifteth up both the bright sword and the glittering spear: and there is a multitude of slain, and a great number of carcases; and there is none end of their corpses; they stumble upon their corpses:
4 Because of the multitude of the whoredoms of the wellfavoured harlot, the mistress of witchcrafts [pharmakon 5332.2] that selleth nations through her whoredoms, and families through her witchcrafts [pharmakon 5332.2].
Malachi 3
4 Then shall the offering of Judah and Jerusalem be pleasant unto the Lord, as in the days of old, and as in former years.
5 And I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers [pharmakon 5333], and against the adulterers, and against false swearers, and against those that oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger from his right, and fear [reverence] not me, saith the Lord of hosts.
6 For I am the Lord, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.
The pharmakeia trail started with bondage in Exodus and ended in judgment in Malachi.
Justice served and deserved.
Romans 14:12
So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.
For those who have decided to get born again of God’s spirit and become one of his beloved sons, we will be judged for the works of the Lord that we carried out, which includes up to 5 different rewards and crowns!
What a wonderful hope we have.
II Timothy 4
7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:
8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
May we walk in meekness, humbleness and wisdom, defeating our foes and getting stronger and healthier all the days of our lives.
