We can do nothing without Christ
May 15, 2015
The other day, I was working on my research article on the sower and the seed [which is now up to 45 pages] and I found an interesting connection about nothing!
Look at this verse in John 15.
John 15:5
I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
In the older Greek texts, the word “vine” is actually “grapevine”. Just as a branch on a grapevine would die and no longer function if it was disconnected from the main vine, we can do no spiritual works by being disconnected from Jesus Christ.
So now the question is, where does Christ get his power to do things?
John 5:30
I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.
John 5:19
Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.
Jesus Christ’s abilities came from God. That is why this verse in Philippians makes so much sense now.
Philippians 4:13
I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
Just as grapes cannot survive apart from the grapevine, we can do nothing without Jesus Christ.
The bottom line is that we can’t accomplish anything without Jesus Christ and he can’t do anything without God. That is why we can do anything when we are in fellowship with God the father and his son Jesus Christ.
